LEED AP BD+C   Mars Burnside Engineering with Logo

Mr. Burnside is LEED AP credentialed in Building Design and Construction. We believe the LEED certification process is an excellent way to achieve sustainable design and operation. The LEED credits encourage many of the same sustainability options that Mr. Burnside’s firm identified 25 years ago when they developed conservation standards for Tucson Unified School District. LEED does this without the need for involved life cycle costing that is often not well understood by all members of the building team.

As you may know there is now a LEED credit for collaborative design. We are excited by the idea of working with architects in a more collaborative manner and know that some architects have experienced difficulty in finding consulting engineers who want to work that way. We want to do sustainable design and we do not take the attitude that “this is the way I do it and I don’t want to learn to do anything different.”

We do want to do sustainable design and are more than happy to apply new technology and design approaches to achieve this. We are well aware that this requires collaboration between the various members of the building team to identify and implement sustainability opportunities. Where possible Mr. Burnside has sustainability in his designs for more than 40 years and went back to school in 1982 to earn a master’s degree in Energy Conservation.

Take a look at the rest of this website to see the variety of projects we have worked on. This broad experience means we know more than one way to do something.
